Mumbai Indians win by 6 wickets

  • 11:33 PM

    Recap

Punjab Kings fought hard in their defence of paltry 135/6, and they were in the game until the penultimate over. With the equation reading 16 off 12, Mohammed Shami faced the brute force of Hardik Pandya (40 off 30), who hit two fours and a six to finish off the chase. Saurabh Tiwary, in for dropped Ishan Kishan, played a gem of an innings for Mumbai, hitting 45 off 37, after Ravi Bishnoi threatened to spoil Mumbai's chase. Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and put Punjab in to bat. None of the Punjab batsmen, except Aiden Markram (42 off 29), looked comfortable against a disciplined attack led by Jasprit Bumrah and Nathan Coulter-Nile. Kieron Pollard took two wickets in one over to reach his 300th T20 wicket.

The result meant that Mumbai are now above Punjab. Check the updated points table HERE.

    Preview

Defending champions Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings will look to shift gear as both teams need to win their next four games to coast into the safety of the IPL playoff zone. Both MI and PBKS are tied on eight points after 10 games and usually, 16 points are good to take a team into the last-four stage of the tournament. Mumbai Indians have looked out of sorts in UAE. They have lost their last three matches in UAE, and in Abu Dhabi tonight Rohit Sharma will expect his struggling middle-order to come good and score some runs. Punjab Kings seem overdependent on KL Rahul in batting and the Mohammed Shami-Arshdeep Singh combination in bowling. They will be arriving in this match having scored a narrow win against Sunrisers Hyderabad still pondering what is their best combination. Follow live cricket scores and live updates of MI vs PBKS.
